Approaching the Dummy

    Picture
As a Kung Fu Instructor for 20 years and teacher of the Dummy for 18 years I can tell you that MANY people hit the dummy incorrectly. Some people hit the Dummy too gingerly, while others stand in the incorrect positions leaving themselves vulnerable to taking shots from their opponent.

Before getting going with Dummy Training I recommend really establishing the proper attitude, distance, structure and hand positions.  Otherwise a person can unknowingly develop bad habits when it comes to combat and thus but themselves in danger.

One of the major problems that new practitioners can have is poor structure. That is, they lack proper stances, strength, and balance. If you are new to dummy training it is good to get proper guidance before before undertaking Dummy Training.
